About

Greetings!  My name is Larry Felton Johnson.  I’m a freelance web developer specializing in the LAMP system (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP).  I’m also adept at hardcore data munging (transforming streams of data in one format into another format) in perl.

While I’d love to pick up gigs by virtue of this site, the real purpose of Off the Beaten Path in Technology is to provide an outlet for my other great love … pontification.  I’m a natural born ham.  At the moment I’m getting my feet wet on this site with more prosaic posts, I’d love to become the Lewis Carroll, or Mark Twain, or Flannery O’Connor of technology writers.

I hope you enjoy this site.

Hi Larry, Thanks for stopping by my blog. You have an interesting blog although I have to read parts of it several times as I am not a smart man. “hardcore data munging” scared me a little. It sounds like something that you do to small animals on your way to becoming a serial killer. But alas, I read further and see that it’s not that at all.

Thanks, Alan! Come to think of it the phrase “hard core data munging” does have sort of a sociopathic ring to it. But it still sounds more geek-exotic than “I take a bunch of words, numbers, or other things, and rearrange them so that they look different.”
