Assorted articles on how solar power works

September 10, 2011

The SunFor the past few days I’ve been scrounging for articles about  solar energy,  and in particular for descriptions of how solar cells and panels for the generation of electricity work.  I was also interested in getting an overall sense of the state of the industry.     Here are a few of the articles I found on the web:

This Scientific American article from 2008  was  a good starting point.  It’s brief and to the point.

For a more detailed, but still basic description there’s a good article on the HowStuffWorks site.  Probably the best thing about the HowStuffWorks article is that it includes a series of links for further information.

In February of this year Greenworld Investor ran a list of 17 top solar panel and solar cell companies.

Finally, here’s an interesting article by the CEO of Recurrent Energy, a solar project development company, suggesting specific regulatory streamlining as a means of speeding up the growth of the solar energy industry in the U.S.
